While studies have documented that 85% of a person’s intellectual
and social development occurs before the age of five, 95% of public investment
in education occurs after age five (Colorado Children’s Campaign,
2002).
The sheer amount of growth and development taking place in the first
few years of a child’s life, coupled with the lack of public spending
during this same window and highly variable skills and knowledge of many
new parents, is the fundamental reason Bright Beginnings was created in
1995.
$0.76 of every $1.00 raised to support Colorado Bright Beginnings goes
to benefit parents and children through statewide program offerings. With
the recent downturn in the economy and the tightening of charitable contributions,
individual donations are more important than ever!
